GOP lawmakers are opting not to push for allowing more offshore oil drilling in the United States. They've also decided not to push for drilling in the section of the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) that was set aside for oil drilling.
So much for energy independence and lower gas prices.
WTF? This is bizarro world stuff. I wonder if this is all part of '06 election posturing (call it fear). If it is, we are in for some sickening displays of cowardice. What is the use of winning elections if you immediately start preparing to move left inorder to hold on in the next election?
I am one angry and confused neo-con.
What the hell happened to the GOP? They have a majority in the Senate, a majority in the House, a GOP President, and they are rolling over to the Democrats.

Posted by: screaming eagle at October 5, 2005 10:44 AMThe GOP sees winning elections as victory, rather than repealing unconstitutional legislation and enacting only constitutional legislation, and they see the media as guard dogs rather than the snarling chihuahuas they really are. Trouble is, if you're scared of a chihuahua, it really is an effective guard dog. I guess this analogy can be stretched further to "attack dog for the left" but it's time for me to do some stretching and get back to work.
Posted by: Morenuancedthanyou at October 5, 2005 11:04 AMI heard DeLay talking about this yesterday, I believe on the Limbaugh show, and he mentioned this would happen. But they are NOT dropping it entirely.
I don't remember the specifics, but he said that the were considering dropping ANWR and offshore drilling from this particular legislation and bring it back up NEXt week as a seperate issue.
Considering that Jeb Bush is not in favor of such a thing, I have my doubts they would give up just like that...
Posted by: Sphagnum at October 5, 2005 8:45 PMI bet if evry one started calling these SOB's and tell them direct that they will not be voting for them next time if they don't stop rolling over things will change
Posted by: Sgt Fluffy at October 5, 2005 10:03 PMGuess I am the odd one out here. Floridians are practically dancing in the streets over this one, GOPers hand in hand with Greenies. We love our coastlines, conservative or otherwise.
Posted by: Monica Monroe at October 6, 2005 1:54 AMJust like all that oil and gas that washed ashore when Hurricane KatrinaRita hit those offshore oil rigs... oh wait... nothing washed ashore and the beaches were fine.
