Fox (search) News and the Ass. Press are reporting that *gasp* Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers owned a gun without a license. Nevermind that there is no ownership license in Texas.
Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers, who once owned a .45-caliber revolver, is not licensed to carry a concealed handgun in Texas. State officials refused Monday to reveal whether she has ever been licensed.Trust me when I say that way more than 230,000 Texans lawfully own guns. The number of law-abiding citizens who regularly carry a gun is much less than those who have actually been granted permission to carry a gun. And that number is much less than those who own a gun. The number of permit holders is miniscule compared to those who simply buy a gun and put it away for a rainy day.Miers' brother gave her the Smith & Wesson handgun when he was worried about her living alone in Dallas. Judge Nathan Hecht of the Texas Supreme Court, a longtime friend of Miers', has said she kept the gun for a long time.
State law requires the release of information about license holders but not former license holders, said Pamela Smith, assistant general counsel for the agency.
A person in Texas can own a gun without a concealed handgun license. Texas is one of 43 states that allow concealed weapons, and more than 230,000 residents are registered under the law.
Of course the bigger question is: "Why is this news?"
UPDATE: Kudos to Uncle with the memory. "I never recall one story about the Chinese assault rifle that John Kerry may or may not have owned."

Posted by: Sgt Fluffy at October 11, 2005 9:14 AMYou don't seriously want a Wild West situation in the Supreme Court, do you? I mean really, it would be like Dodge City all over again!
This woman is clearly a maniac. Who else would own such a fearsome, large-caliber, assault revolver?
Posted by: roger at October 11, 2005 9:22 AMRoger, you forgot to mention "the streets running red with the blood of innocents".
Posted by: mikeh at October 11, 2005 10:15 AMAnd if Miers was a man, there would be the obligatory references to compensation for penis size...
Posted by: Robert Garrard at October 11, 2005 10:47 AMSo wheres the high crime rate wheres the blood flowing down the streets of our major cities as predicted by the liberal news media and columists i suggest these liberal idiots eat their news papers without the benifit of catsup
Posted by: screaming eagle at October 11, 2005 2:56 PMAll my 45 years I've never saw a gun walk down the streets and kill people. Liberal morons I own several guns and never had to chase them down.

Posted by: RepublicanTeamLeader at October 11, 2005 3:55 PMRoger and Fluffy are using a rhetorical form called sarcasm.
Look it up sometime.
Do these people have any idea how big a .45 revolver is? It's not the exactly the weapon of choice for concealed carry, particularly for someone named "Harriet."
Its like in KENNEESHAW GEORGIA when they passed a GUN IN EVERY HOME ordenence and as usial the liberal news media were making the most rediclous statments claiming blood would flow through the streets and minor arguments would lead to blood shead it looks like the Media Vulture went down to georgia looking for a feast and starved to death instead its fun to see the liberals act so rediclous and end up with egg on their faces
