Congress finally passed the Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which will keep the anti-gun lobby from suing the gun industry out of existance. The lawsuits were akin to suing Ford because someone ran over you with a Ford.
Of course the gun banners are in hysterics.
"This legislation will make the unregulated gun industry the most pampered industry in America," said Kristen Rand, director of the Violence Policy Center. That's right, she actually said "unregulated". More than 20,000 gun laws on the books in this country, and she calls that "unregulated."
Then there's these gems from Laurie Kellman of the AP, who seems to think it's all about Bush:
The bill's passage was the NRA's top legislative priority and would give Bush and his [evil] Republican allies on Capitol Hill a rare victory at a time when some top GOP leaders are under indictment or investigation...Five other Congressmen also did not vote, but for some reason Kellman doesn't say why.Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, did not vote. He is in Texas in connection with his indictment in an alleged scheme to violate state election law.

Outstanding news. I'm surprised it passed so easily. Anytime liberals have a nice strawman like "victim rights" to work behind they usually win or at least effectively water down the legislation. I consider this to be not just a good result, but also a sign of a healthy and effective gun rights lobby.

Also, it was pretty nice of her to let us know what Tom DeLay's was doing. I hadn't heard much about that guy in recent weeks.
Posted by: roger at October 21, 2005 11:21 AMThe article in my paper also quotes Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL): "It is shameful that Republicans in Congress are pushing for legislation that guarantees their gun-dealing cronies receive special treatment and are above the law."
Um, cluebat please? Wasn't legislation almost exactly like this recently passed without comment that protects the fast food industry?
And yes, the NRA is crowing. So what?
Robert Wexler your typical dumb mindless jackass showing what a poor sport he is get used to it fool
