Abandon Ship

If you live in Illinois, I suggest you move out now. Give up on the Stalinists and relocate to a free state. I hate to be rude, but Say Uncle just set me off with his report that Illinios Gov. Alphabet is crowing about his anti-gun veto not being overturned.

Gov. Blagojevich applauds members of the Illinois House for upholding his veto of dangerous legislation that would undermine local gun laws [bans]...
From the outside looking in, Illinois appears to be nothing more than a third world socialist dictatorship. Let's talk about dangerous. One the one hand you have law abiding citizens who want nothing more than to provide security and safety for their family and loved ones. Respecting their freedom to own, purchase, possess, and carry guns does not deprive anyone else of life, liberty, or property.

Then you've got this bunch of deep blue socialist assholes who pardon or parole a bunch of murderers and rapists, while setting up barriers to (or just plain outlaw) self-defense for the law-abiding citizenry. Then they're shocked, I say, shocked when the crime rate goes up. To them, that's a sign that they aren't doing enough to violate the rights of the law abiding. (Rope, tree, politician, some assembly required.)

I will not live in Illinois, I will not visit Illinois, and at this point I doubt I would even pass through Illinois. If I ever have children, I won't even teach them to spell Illinois. If they'd be fool enough to take it, we should give it to Canada. Freedom lovers need to get out now, while you still can.

It's a pity that's where Les Baer is located.

If you have children, teach them to spell it "Ill Annoy," or to pronounce it "ill annoys."

Here's what I found most distrubing:
"Signed SB 1333, which closed the gun-show loophole by requiring gun sellers, who are not federally licensed firearms dealers, to request background checks from the Illinois State Police (ISP) before they can sell guns at gun shows. If ISP determines, after a background check is conducted, that the buyer is qualified to own a gun, the state police will issue an approval number that is valid for 30 days, during which time the sale must take place. Additionally, the seller must retain records of sales for at least ten years and make those records available to law enforcement agencies for criminal investigations."

So, if I sell you a gun at a "gun show" --how did they define that?-- then I have to do a background check. Okay, that sucks, but it is about par for the course for GFW states. Then I have to store records of the transaction for ten frikkin' years?!?! Umm... negative ghostrider. I have a hard enough time as it is keeping track of my various documents (for insurance, mortgage, etc.), I really don't need the possibility of criminal penalties for losing a piece of paper. Even with my CCW permit, if I lose that and still need/want to carry, I'm in VA and can just strap it to my hip and go. But if you lose the paper that said you sold a gun... well, then you face criminal penalties.

That's the kicker. Illinois is out (as if I were considering it before reading that). Unfortunately, my wife's extended family lives out there. However, I've been corrupting them. Before the rehearsal dinner for our wedding, a bunch of her cousins went to the range with me and blasted away for hours. (And then commented on how nice it was to do that in VA)

Let me extend an invitation to any Illinois resident who enjoys firearms to move a little further south to Kentucky. State law bars municipalites from passing ANY restrictions on firearms possession. Kentucky is an open carry state and a shall issue CCW state. Remington has a facility here as does A-Square.

It appears that the only good thing about Illinois these days is that it makes me feel much better about Ohio.

Of course, I'll feel even better once Bob Taft is gone and Ken Blackwell, a true conservative, takes over.

OT, but what the hell...does the phrase "deep blue socialist" disorient anyone else who is old enough to remember the Cold War?

The good guys are supposed to be blue, and the evil communist hordes are supposed to be red.

Cognitive dissonance hurts...
