Special interest groups are pushing for same-day voter registration in New York. They want people to be able to show up the day of the election and vote, regardless of their registration status, reports the New York Sun. That would be a logistical nightmare for election officials. It's hard enough just counting the votes, without having to worry about registering people on the spot.
This may also have interesting timing for Hillary in '06 and '08.
Geez, you'd think these peolple are under house arrwst or something, with only one trip outside their homes allowed per year.
Honestly, how tough is it to go out and register a month or two before the elections?
I wonder if the liberals in my home state (MA) would also favor same day gun license approvals. It took mine more than 100 days to show up in my mailbox.
Just think how many voters they could registered this week alone if they spent as much energy on that goal as they do on pushing for this same-day registration nonsense.
Posted by: Bruce at November 8, 2005 8:54 AMHow many of them make special trips to the local stop 'n' go when the lottery jackpot gets up there?
Posted by: Ravenwood at November 8, 2005 8:56 AMI wonder how many voting stations I could get registered at in one day? With a different name and address at each one.
After all, don't the Democrats want to allow voting without the burden of having to provide ID?
Posted by: Kevin Baker at November 8, 2005 10:09 AMWe should just do that inking thing that's been used in Iraqi elections. Got ink on your hand? Then you can't vote!
I guess someone will still find some reason to complain, though.
