One tragic loss in Virginia is that of Delegate Dick Black. Though he's not my Delegate, I took a special trip out to Loudoun County for a VCDL picnic a year or so ago just to meet Mr. Black. He's a staunch conservative, and a true friend of gun owners and the 32nd District. He'll be sorely missed.
I'm not sure why Black lost, though if I had to guess I would say it's shifting demographics. Loudoun is one of the fastest growing areas in the country and they are constantly fighting over community planning. Lots of urbanites from liberal Arlington and Alexandria have been moving outside the beltway and into Loudoun. Farm land is being bought up and turned into condos, and Delegate Black may be a victim of urban sprawl.
But then again, what do I know? I live inside the beltway.
I think changing demographics partly his undoing, but the amount of outsiders pumped into the district from places like New Jersey makes me suspicious that the dems saw the opportunity to take the seat. There seems to have been an awful lot of money spent in the Marsden campaign too, way more than is normal for just a delegate seat.
