What are you doing Dave?

Who needs a wife to nag you about driving too fast, when the government can install a monitoring device to slow your car down for you. That may just happen to Canadian drivers. The government of Canadia is exploring technology to control driver's cars from the inside.

The system being tested by Transport Canada, the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. Department of Transportation, uses a global positioning satellite device installed in the car to monitor the car's speed and position. If the car begins to significantly exceed the speed limit for the road on which it's travelling the system responds by making it harder to depress the gas pedal, according to a story posted on the Toronto Globe and Mail's Website.

Just the kind of car you'd want to have should the need arise to outrun a tornado.

You know, garages should start offering "de big brothering" packages.

For $49.95, they'll disable the gps, accellerator friction solenoid, speed governor, black box tattle tale storage, seat belt lights, and scan for rfids.

Get the delux package, and they'll blow the high performance firmware into the motor's cpu.

Also apparently being considered by our big brother government here in England.

I'm considering buying something suitbly vintage without engine management kit. Or a pair of pliers.

I doubt you'll get anything (other than a laugh) out of a mechanic for $49.95. But it's a service I'd be willing to pay for.

I see a great potential for lawsuits here. "The car made me drive slow when I was trying to get to hospital" or "I was rear ended when the mechanism malfunctioned"

Can the government get sued?
