Reader "Chris" sends this bit of fan mail:
I will never be back because you have the back button disabled. Sights like this will soon be a thing of the past. That's right Chris. I had the team over at Halliburton working overtime to come up with a way to steal your back button. It's part of our plan for world conquest. With all the back buttons disabled, nobody will be able to stop us. Not even those pesky kids with their goofy looking dog and tricked out hippie van.
Most sites that keep you from leaving via back button are usually porn sites. I bet the dude was multi tasking and while looking at porn tried viewing your site too.
Posted by: Rhett at December 6, 2005 12:58 AMWTF?? Back button disabled? Never had that happen here and when I thought that it had happened elsewhere it was actually a smoothly done new window.
But anyway, get a life!
One way I've seen the "back button" "disabled" was that entering the site caused an immediate redirect that took you where you thought you were going in the first place. Now when you hit the back button you go back to the site that redirects you to the site you thought you were leaving. :-(
Posted by: Bob Reynolds at December 6, 2005 3:00 AMBob,
That actually makes perfect sense. He probably hit an old link or search result to one of the legacy .shtml pages and was automatically redirected to the newer .php pages.
I checked it out though, and if you hit the back button fast enough you can still get back to your original page.

Posted by: -keith in mtn. view at December 6, 2005 8:15 PMActually, I imagine what happened was he opened a link on your site which you have set to open in a new window (which I find kinda annoying myself). He probably didnt' realize that it was a new window and being the first site opened int hat window, the "back button" would be greyed out...
He's just not the smarted internet browser out there...
