The al-Qaeda Bill of Rights

Senator John McCain, a Republican (surprise!) from Arizona, pushed through an al-Qaeda Bill of Rights, which protects terrorists from "cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment" at the hands of the U.S. military.

"We've sent a message to the world that the United States is not like the terrorists. We have no grief for them, but what we are is a nation that upholds values and standards of behavior and treatment of all people, no matter how evil or bad they are," McCain said. "I think that this will help us enormously in winning the war for the hearts and minds of people throughout the world in the war on terror."
No longer will terrorists be subjected to such horrors as:
    - Being interviewed by a woman
    - Having dogs in the same room
    - Having to look at the bottom of someone's shoe
    - Being forced to listen to Whitney Houston (I actually agree with that one)
    - Uncomfortable silence or staring
    - Rapid fire questions
    - Sleep deprivation
That is just a sample of the numerous "torture" techniques that were approved by the U.S. Army, according to this declassified memo provided by the ACLU (al-Qaeda Civil Liberties Union).

Merriam-Webster defines torture:

1 a : anguish of body or mind : AGONY b : something that causes agony or pain
2 : the infliction of intense pain (as from burning, crushing, or wounding) to punish, coerce, or afford sadistic pleasure
None of the items on the list are what a reasonable person would consider "torture".

I'm not following the "torture" debate, but McCain lost my vote forever when he slandered the Swift Boat Veterans. (I guess he must support the Fonda/Kerry crowd in calling him a liar about being tortured by the North Vietnamese.)
He can keep digging his hole and take his all things to all voters strategy with him.
McCain is a political whore.

The people on the one dem board I occasionally "play" on are expecting us to rally around McCain in 2008.

I guess that just proves how clueless they are.

McCain lost my vote even before the swift boat slandering. The words "McCain/Feingold" will forever keep me from punching his name on a ballot.

No need to transport and interrogate them now. In accordance with the Geneva Conventions, just shoot them on the battlefield when captured.

Sleep deprivation IS torture ... the soviets used it to get confessions before they shipped victims off to the transit camps.

Calling the rest torture is just PC bullshit.....

And I do agree with using the full Geneva and Hague conventions ... an un-uniformed combatant is considered a spy, and can be sumarily executed.

Posted by: Kristopher at December 16, 2005 4:31 PM

Since we can no longer ask for anything but name, rank, and serial number they have no intelligence value. They are, however, illegal combatants. As such a quick trial by miltary tribunal followed by swift execution should cover the legal bases.

Th problem with "just shooting" terrorists when captured is that it is obviously much more valuable, indeed vital, to get information out of them. By adding such vague ideas as "degrading treatment" in this bill, basically McCain has set up a means for terrorists to shut up. I guarantee the next push will be for terrorists to be granted full Geneva rights and access to layers.

I guess JOHN MCCAIN didnt go through enough aboard the USS FORRISTALL and in the HANOI HILTON

He lost my vote before this too. But he did cause me now to actively work against him and his poodle Graham.

My nightmare is a choice in 08 between McCain and Hill with the Left in control of Congress.

McCain has all the makings of another Jimmy Carter.

Joe- it was the Clinton Administration that made the conservative movement in America strong. If the Republican Party can't come up with a better candidate than John "What First Amendment?" McCain, than it DESERVES to lose; and just possibly it will learn a lesson or two from that loss.
