But don't question his patriotism

"We've got nation building by the U.S. military, and that's not a mission for the U.S. military. I've said this over and over again: They're not good at nation building. You've given them a mission which they cannot carry out. They do the best they can, but they can't do it." -- Rep. John Murtha, Democrat (surprise!) from Pennsylvania, once again trashing the troops.

Not quite a John Kerry, that is, he wasn't fighting for America before he was fighting against it. But hey, he is still a disgrace.
For some, politics comes before anything, even loyalty to his fellow servicemen or countrymen.

Isn't the US pretty much doing the same thing they did in Germany and Japan after WWII? Wouldn't that be nation building? Is anyone out there actually buying the load of crap that Murtha is selling?
No need to answer, the questions were all rhetorical...

We do not have a good record in nation building. Didn't Ayatollah Khomeini come in to power in Iran directly as a result of our support of the Shah? What about Marcos in the Philippians? US nation building at it's finest? Seems at one point we were propping up any guy in a funny hat as long as he wasn't a commie. And do I need to mention Somalia? What exactly the hell were we doing over there, feeding people or covertly building a nation?

That being said, Iraq has a great new constitution that we wrote, that is highly flawed, but much, much better than I ever expected. It has no RKBA, and specifically does not allow the formation of the type of informal self-defense militias we saw here after Katrina. We're building an Iraqi military, and a US built, Iraqi kangaroo court is about to hang the evil Saddam. We've had far more success than I've ever saw possible. We may just pull it off.

And if we can do that, we know the price of freedom, the price of a democratically elected republic, approximately one gazillion dollars and a bunch of brave souls.
