You read articles like this and this, and you'd never know former Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell - who was just sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison - was a Democrat.
If you read this AP story, it's mentioned as the very last word on the very last line. The line that's sometimes cut for brevity.

But even the AP story puts the party affiliation in the past tense.

Posted by: Kevin Baker at June 15, 2006 9:56 PMThat's a strange verdict: Not guilty of taking bribes, but guilty of evading income tax on the bribes. Does this have to do with real corruption, or with a federal prosecutor demonstrating that he can not only indict a ham sandwich, but by throwing enough charges at it, he can get a conviction on one of them?

When I lived in Atlanta, the general consensus was that Campbell was a crook.
Posted by: Ravenwood at June 26, 2006 10:41 AMI have lived in Atlanta all of my life. Bill Campbell was the worst Mayor we have ever had...and that is a honor here in Atlanta. The current Mayor initially ran on the platform of ending the corruption...so it was definitely known how corrupt he really was.
