A guy at work bought a Vulcan 900 Classic this spring. It's a nice starter bike and only costs $7200. My last two guns cost that much, so getting into biking doesn't seem that unreasonable.
Other than being a cheap bastard, my biggest barrier to entry is not having a garage in which to house it. Also the SO (that's significant other) doesn't like bikes at all. But I think she'd come around once she saw me in my leather chaps and skull cap.

Thats a pretty nice looking bike, especially for that price.
But, I don't do motorcycles either.

Around here it's too easy to get seriously dead on a motorcycle. The papers are full of stories about bikers getting killed by idiots who pull out or turn in front of bikes they "didn't see."

What the heck did you get?
I'm jealous whatever you got.

Actually they were investments and should appreciate over time. One gun I bought two years ago cost $1500. It's now worth $3500. Try getting a yield like that on your mutual fund.
A motorcycle on the other hand, is a depreciating asset.

I've been riding for (counting on fingers) ((and toes)) 12 years now. The single best piece of advice I can give is to take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. It's, quite literally, a life-saver.
Yeah, cagers are morons. Yeah, you will have the occasional blue hair blow through a red light and cause you to lock the rear wheel and skid a little.
But nothing, and I mean nothing, beats the feeling of motoring on two wheels.
(although I'd opt for a Harley...) ;)
