Opinions are like assholes. And speaking of assholes, Dan Simpson of the Toledo Blade has a plan for disarming America.
Now, how would one disarm the American population? First of all, federal or state laws would need to make it a crime punishable by a $1,000 fine and one year in prison per weapon to possess a firearm. The population would then be given three months to turn in their guns, without penalty.Via Geek.Hunters would be able to deposit their hunting weapons in a centrally located arsenal, heavily guarded, from which they would be able to withdraw them each hunting season upon presentation of a valid hunting license. The weapons would be required to be redeposited at the end of the season on pain of arrest. When hunters submit a request for their weapons, federal, state, and local checks would be made to establish that they had not been convicted of a violent crime since the last time they withdrew their weapons. In the process, arsenal staff would take at least a quick look at each hunter to try to affirm that he was not obviously unhinged. . .
The disarmament process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty. Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling, and empty building. All firearms would be seized. The owners of weapons found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each firearm.
Clearly, since such sweeps could not take place all across the country at the same time. But fairly quickly there would begin to be gun-swept, gun-free areas where there should be no firearms. If there were, those carrying them would be subject to quick confiscation and prosecution. On the streets it would be a question of stop-and-search of anyone, even grandma with her walker, with the same penalties for "carrying."

It'll never happen. You yourself said, many moons ago, "if you hear that Ravenwood's guns have been taken, you'll know Ravenwood is dead." (I remember this vividly because it was the post that made this blog one of my regular visits)
If this asshole thinks that there aren't millions of people who would fight for their rights, then this asshole is living in an amazing land of authoritarian candy and dictatorship rainbows.
This has to be fake. (But it is spreading.) With all due respect for the capacity of gun grabbers to sound stupid, this sounds like a send up on their very worst instincts.
Special squads of police? Grandma and all subject to stop and search without cause? Sealing off city blocks for door to door searches?

Sounds like he's given this a lot of thought...
If he thinks the police will go door to door taking weapons, he's very sorely mistaken...

If any of the police think _they_ can go door to door taking weapons _and_ go home at night, they're fatally mistaken.
They are not getting my deceased grandfather's rifle, nor are they getting my husbands's deceased father's rifle. We aren't gun nuts (meant in the nicest possible way), nor do we even use the guns (we do have ammo and training though) - but they still aren't getting them
And if they think that we will sit still for random searches and stopping us in the street for no reason then they don't know the majority of people we know!
