Conditions in Zimbabwe are not getting any better, and President two-bit dictator Mugabe has ordered business to cut prices or else.
Police said more than 1,300 businesses have been charged and fined over the past two weeks for defying orders to slash prices in half, part of the government's attempts to reel in Zimbabwe's spiraling economic crisis.Stores aren't going to buy food for higher prices than they are allowed to sell it, which means that price controls will only make the supply dry up quicker and force stores to shut their doors. The famine will worsen, and those that were productive members of the economy will flee in even larger numbers.State radio reported that 33 top company executives have been arrested since Friday and were expected to appear in court on charges of violating the order to cut prices and hoarding goods....
Official inflation is running at 4,500 percent, the highest in the world, though independent financial institutions estimate real inflation is closer to 9,000 percent...
The government accuses business leaders of being part of a political and economic campaign of "regime change" to bring down longtime ruler President Robert Mugabe.
In a speech to supporters Friday, Mugabe warned manufacturers not to defy the government-ordered price cuts by cutting production or their businesses would be seized.
Meanwhile, our own elected officials scratch their chins and go, "Hmmmmm."

Posted by: Morenuancedthanyou at July 16, 2007 3:08 AMWorld has spoken enough and the sanctions have done their part. What is required now is none other than action. We still have memories of 2002 elections. The international communities thought to impose sanctions would help but look what happened were the local innocent people who suffered while the murderers remained enjoying blood money from poor taxpayers.
It was already voiced out by Kenyan Minister that since the sanctions have proved futile so far the world should use other tastes of measures at this time. As everyone has witnessed after March elections first round results Mugabe used full force to intimidate the innocent civilians so what else can the defender of the poor civilians do to liberate and install the people?s right? The Mugabe?s government declared war on the civilians how can the shields of the armless citizens respond to this? Zimbabweans wished to voice out their feelings by exercising natural right by casting vote but the power hungry lions have denied this right by chaotic and life claiming. To let Mugabe realize his illegitimate government is not recognized and that the civilians have their watchdogs, the following steps must be taken with no unnecessary debate:-
1. SADC must clearly state their position and strongly write him indicating his isolation due to his illegitimate government
2. The AU must write Mugabe and his loyalties immediately communicating them about their government illegitimacy
3. UN must translate the sanctions into the action and immediately apply them accordingly in response to Mugabe?s declared war against the civilians
4. All these three bodies (UN, AU & SADC) must in one accord take their final response to the call.
5. Since SADC is comprised of politicians who are somehow reluctant openly to criticize Mugabe?s undesirable behaviour other bodies (AU & UN) must lead this role.
If the full force will not be the only option for the Zimbabwe illegitimate government now the entire world will come to a conclusion that the International Body (UN) mission of invasion to other sovereign territories is none other than looking for economic benefits and will be discredited by the observers. The regional body (SADC) will prove his irresponsibility for the affairs of the rights people. And the leadership of AU would portray the signal of failure in the process of uniting the continent.
