ATF arrests man for stockpiling ammunition

The South Bend Tribune reports on a man that was arrested by the ATF's Project Disarm Task Force for stockpiling ammunition.

Police and federal agents who searched a South 28th Street home on Wednesday were looking for ammunition, court documents reveal.

A federal affidavit unsealed today indicates that yesterday's search and arrest came after a months-long investigation into a man whom authorities believe is delusional and has long been stockpiling ammunition.

Not illegal.
South Bend police and agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrived Wednesday afternoon at the man's home, in the 900 block of South 28th Street.

ATF agents arrested the 38-year-old man, who was still in the county jail this afternoon, police said.

The federal affidavit indicates there was probable cause to arrest the man for receiving ammunition while he was the subject of a restraining order involving a former girlfriend.

Ahh restraining orders. Women get "paper protection", men lose their civil rights.
The 16-page document also reveals that the ATF's Project Disarm Task Force has been investigating the man since mid-April, and that a mental health investigation found he was "suffering from delusions with persecutory tendencies."
...said the persecutors...
Investigators believe the man thought the global economy was on the verge of a collapse that would result in widespread violence, the affidavit says.
Wonder where he got that idea (thank you drive-by media).
At one point, the man told an ATF task force agent that he wanted to project his property from "thugs from Gary and here in South Bend."
So there you have it. A man buys an unspecified amount of ammo and the feds throw him into jail for it.

Spineless Republicans

If Republicans force Larry Craig out of office, I'm writing off the party as a bunch of spineless bible thumpers. Being gay is not a crime, nor are sexual flings. Bitter says it best:

Looking for someone to have sex with is not illegal. If it were, every bar, nightclub, dating website, speed dating event, and frat house would have to be shut down.

What Double Standard?

How come Democrat politicians are allowed to illegally tap cell phones, enrich themselves with crooked land deals, and get caught red-handed with $90,000 in cash in their freezer, while Republicans are persecuted just for being gay and trying to get a little some some?

You could argue that it is hypocritical of Senator Larry Craig to be anti-gay if he is gay himself. But you could also argue that it's hypocritical for someone who gets $400 haircuts to make poverty the centerpiece of his campaign platform, or to take illegal campaign contributions while criticizing your opponents "culture of corruption".

Of all the crimes taking place in Washington, being gay isn't one of them.

Mayor Against Guns

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, founder of the Mayors Against Guns coalition, is waging his own propaganda campaign on the streets of New York City. Amateur photog Ymg200 captures a few of the signs:

In case you can't read the fine print, it says "Guns=Prison".

The Washington Post redefines humanity:

Actions the NFL quarterback agreed to plead guilty to are crimes against humanity.
This also sounds a bit defensive.

Eleven people were hurt during production of the latest Tom Cruise movie. But not to worry:

"We have no findings to suggest anyone famous was involved in the accident," said a police spokesman, adding he did not know whether it would affect the shoot this week.
Whew. For a minute there I thought it was serious.

For The Children

"As we slide down the slippery slope, future smoke bans will include cars (where children are present), private homes (where children and/or employees may be present), and eventually outdoors (where smoke is free to roam where anyone might be present)." -- Ravenwood, 11/10/2005

Under a City Council proposal, New York City would prohibit smoking in cars where children are riding, joining the ranks of Arkansas, Louisiana, Puerto Rico, Bangor, Me., and Rockland County, N.Y., where similar legislation has been passed. -- New York Times, 08/15/2007

Purity Of Essense

Flouridation of water started in nineteen hundred and forty-six. 1946. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.

Over at Say Uncle, they point out that the .gov is gearing up for a war on bottled water.

Nanny Government isn't happy with bottled water. Good little proletariates drink their water from the tap. They know better than to incur the wrath of the all knowing all seeing Goracle and his dominion over the Church of Gaia Mother Earth.
Have you ever seen a Commie drink a glass of water? Thats why I only drink grain alcohol and rainwater.

Poster Child for Tort Reform

What happens when you give inmates free access to the legal system? You get stupid shit like this:

Embattled NFL quarterback Michael Vick, facing federal charges related to his alleged participation in dogfighting, has been hit with a "$63,000,000,000 billion dollar" lawsuit filed by a South Carolina inmate who alleges the Atlanta Falcons star stole his pit bulls and sold them on eBay to buy "missiles from Iran."
Inmates get bored pretty quickly and commonly file lawsuits as a form of entertainment.

The gun-ban group Violence Policy Center shows us how to do a study on $5 a day.

Florida ranks second in the country in the number of drive-by shootings, according to the Violence Police Center on Wednesday.

Fifty-seven drive-by shootings were reported by news organizations from July 2006 to December 2006 in the state of Florida.

According to the study, Florida ranks second only to California. Texas ranked third in the country.

While it may sound disturbing, the way the data was collected is a bit controversial.

The Violence Policy Center used the Internet search engine Google to find stories with the term drive-by in them. However, not all reporters use the term drive-by in their stories.

The Violence Policy Center said their study is not perfect, but hope it sparks discussion with policymakers.

"Their study is not perfect." Understatement of the year.

They looked at only six months from July to December, and made this brilliant conclusion complete with a graph: "Drive-by shootings peaked in the month of July and continued to decline as the months turned colder."

My guess is no later than Thursday

How long before the NFL shuts this site down?

They claim "Vick" is a fictional character, but the title bar on the site clearly says "Michael Vick", they're using his likeness, number, and NFL colors all without permission.

UPDATE (8/8): That was fast. It's only Wednesday and the toy has already been radically changed. The colors and likeness are much different, although they are still using the name. Something tells me they either got cold feet or were warned about the dangers of treading on the NFL's copyrights.

Democrats in the House passed a huge tax on those evil, dreaded, baby killing "big oil" companies.

Declaring a new direction in energy policy, the House on Saturday approved $16 billion in taxes on oil companies, while providing billions of dollars in tax breaks and incentives for renewable energy and conservation efforts...

"This will save consumers money," said Rep. Tom Udall, D-New Mexico

Umm. No. Oil companies don't pay taxes, they collect them. They collect them from consumers like you and me.

Companies themselves are just entities, and no matter the industry taxes levied on goods and services are passed on to consumers, employees, or stockholders. That means if Democrats are able to reconcile this bill with the Senate bill passed in June and get it passed, you should expect to pay higher prices at the pump.

What media bias?

"Dogs kill man at 'Pulp Fiction' actor's home" -- Headline, CNN, August 04, 2007.

When someone is killed by a pit bull, the headlines read "Pit Bull Kills Man". Any other dog and it just says "dog". (These were bull mastiffs.)

Red Alert: Votes for Health Care program to destroy cigar industry

Senate and House Democrats are falling all over each other to see who can be first to destroy the U.S. cigar industry. Dueling bills in the Senate and House would raise the tax on cigars to fund healthcare programs for "children". And as usual Congresses definition of "children" is being relaxed to include adults as old as 25 and illegal aliens.

Rather than tax diapers, toys, video games or other child accouterments, Democrats are adopting a "from each according to their ability" strategy. They plan to raise the maximum tax on a cigar from $1 per cigar to a whopping $10 per cigar. Low-end cigar prices would likely triple.

Not only will the U.S. cigar industry be decimated, but the cigar industry in many Latin American countries like the Dominican Republic will also suffer.

Adding insult to injury Democrats from Florida (the home of the American cigar industry) are actually pushing for the tax hike. Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) and freshman Delegate Kathy Castor are both in favor of the bill because it's for the children. Castor has gone so far as to lead the Democrat charge rather than support the constituents of her Tampa district (the U.S. cigar capital).

What is most ironical perhaps, is that the tax hike will actually do more to harm the children (and 25 year old illegal aliens) than help them. The taxes are so prohibitive that many people would simply stop smoking cigars. Cigars are not addictive like cigarettes, and cigar smoking would certainly decline.

Die-hard cigar enthusiasts would resort to buying bootlegged cigars or using Al Gore's internet to have smokes shipped in from low-tax countries like Spain. That means nobody will be left to fund the $8 Billion votes for health care program that Democrats and some Republicans are planning. And as long as you're buying cigars from overseas, you might as well support Castro's Cuba and pick up some of the people's cigars.

Anti-smoking ads encourage smoking

"...without monetary damages, all the fed can do is limit [cigarette] marketing or demand that [tobacco companies] fund more of those lame anti-smoking advertisements (which I tend to think actually increases teen smoking)." -- Ravenwood, February 7, 2005.

"I've long theorized that anti-smoking commercials were not only counter-productive, but were really a clever plot to increase smoking. Especially those annoying 'think' commercials that say things like 'smokers are idiots' and 'can anyone tell me why these dumbasses smoke'." -- Ravenwood, May 15, 2006.

"Youngsters 12 to 17 were less likely to see smoking as harmful and had stronger intentions to smoke after the airing of television ads that urged parents to talk to their children about not lighting up, according to the study to be published in December in the American Journal of Public Health." -- Washington Post, November 1, 2006.

"The more exposure middle school students have to anti-smoking ads, the more likely they are to smoke, according to a new University of Georgia study." -- Atlanta Journal-Constitution, July 19, 2007.

Virginian Pilot falls prey to Ravenwood's Law

A VCDL member was detained at Norfolk's Annual Harborfest for openly carrying a firearm. It seems Norfolk recently passed a law making illegal to carry a gun at the local festival. The problem for Norfolk is that their law is illegal. Virginia's "Dillon Rule" prevents cities from passing laws more restrictive than State law.

The contempt for gun owners by the Virginian Pilot is obvious, and it's not long before they openly violate Ravenwood's Law:

As always follows one of these stories, Virginia's firearm activists will fall in line to take aim at anyone with the temerity to suggest that their rights have limits. These same groups have so completely cowed anyone who disagrees that Virginians might well wonder whether they live in the Old Dominion or the Wild West.
