Things are heating up in the Virginia Legislature. After the Senate Republicans through their support behind a nearly $4 Billion tax increase, House Republicans started lobbying for a voter referendum rather than a deadlock between the House and Senate. House Speaker William J. Howell says, "Starting today, the choice in the budget debate becomes very clear: impasse or referendum." Virginia Governor Mark Warner, who ran on a "no new taxes" campaign, clearly does not want the voters to decide.
"This action is extremely irresponsible and is an abdication of leadership."That's right, Governor Warner thinks that letting the voters decide on whether or not they should have to pay for huge tax increases is "extremely irresponsible". Maybe that's why he campaigned on the promise to not to raise taxes in the first place.
