More unique visitors, more page views, fewer hits?
I have noticed that getting linked by a major blogger results in an elvation in general traffic for a long time afterward. Your traffic runs about ten times, mine though.
Posted by: Kevin Baker at April 2, 2004 10:40 AMI'm not surprised by that. I recently changed the "odometer" page counter to use the one provided by Hostingmatters instead of the bootlegged code I had stolen from somewhere. (The old counter was buggy and would reset to zero periodically.)
One side effect was the change was that instead of calling each digit as a separate GIF image (6 hits for a 6 digit number) the new script calls the counter number as a single GIF image (1 hit).
It may not sound like much, but over time it results in less HITS and faster page loading.
